T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide gets photographed by Mr. Blurrycam

We have been hearing about a device like this under the name the HTC DoubleShot lately and that was the code name for what we all believe is the MyTouch 4G Slide. My Blurrycam was lucky enough to find this device and snap a few photos for us all to enjoy. If you have not heard it will be just like its older brother but feature a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

From the leaked photos it appears to be running Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. That is the absolute latest version from Google and if that is correct it will natively run Google Talk and have those video and front facing camera features. It also appears to have the latest HTC Sense UI v3.0 onboard as well, even though the original MyTouch 4G had a custom skin with parts of Sense included.
It should feature a similar dual-core Qualcomm chip as the Sensation 4G, and it has the same 8MP camera on the rear as well as the front. The leaker suggests the screen is nothing to write home about so it must not have a qHD screen sadly. He also suggests the keyboard is soft and squishy and seems very similar to the HTC G2. Hopefully we see more on this in the coming weeks.

T-Mobile gets Samsung Exhibit 4G and Gravity SMART budget Android smartphones

T-Mobile and Samsung Mobile have announced that T-Mobile will be getting a pair of new budget Android smartphones for its users to choose. The new devices include the Samsung Exhibit 4G and the Samsung Gravity SMART. The big feature of both of the Android-powered smartphones is the price. Both of the smartphones will sell for under $100 each after a $50 mail-in rebate. Naturally, that price requires a new 2-year agreement.

The Exhibit 4G smartphone will work on the T-Mobile 4G network. The T-Mobile 4G network is good for download speeds up to 21Mbps in theory. The smartphone runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and has a 1GHz processor inside. It comes with T-Mobile TV pre-loaded and has games pre-loaded as well. Other features include a 3MP camera with flash and video recording and a front camera for video chats. It also has WiFi connectivity.
The Gravity SMART runs Android 2.2 Froyo and has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for messaging. The keyboard is spacious with four-rows of keys. The screen on the Gravity SMART is a 3.2-inch touchscreen unit and it features Swype for easy text input. The camera on the phone is a 3MP unit with flash and video recording capability. Both of these smartphones will connect to the Android Market.

T-Mobile Sensation 4G is $550 off-contract

T-Mobile USA’s pre-interest page for the Sensation 4G went live yesterday, and now the carrier has confirmed pricing for the HSPA+ smartphone both on and off-contract. As usual for a high-end Android smartphone, the Sensation 4G will be $199.99 with a new, two-year agreement (with mandatory voice and data) after a $50 mail-in rebate.

If you’d rather not be tied down to that agreement – and who can blame you – then T-Mobile USA will also offer the Sensation 4G contract-free for $549.99 plus tax. That then allows you to take your pick from the carrier’s various plans, use an existing SIM, or go prepaid if you’d prefer.
The T-Mobile Sensation 4G is set to land in Target stores from June 12, with wider availability in the carrier’s own stores by June 15. Check out our full review over at SlashGear for all the details.

T-Mobile Officially Announces Samsung Exhibit 4G and Gravity SMART

Hot from the press, T-Mobile issued a press release only a few moments ago announcing 2 new Android powered handsets from Samsung Mobile. First up is the Exhibit 4G which is the more “high-end” of the two, featuring a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, VGA front facing camera, 3MP rear camera, 3.7-inch 800×480 AMOLED display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and fully compatible with T-Mobile’s blazing fast 4G network, all for only $80 after a $50 mail-in rebate. It will also be available in both black and purple color options.

Next up is the Gravity SMART. This feature phone continues in the Gravity line of Samsung’s phones except this is the first to feature Android as the OS. Gravity SMART will come with a 3.2-inch screen, 800MHz processor, 3MP camera and Android 2.2 Froyo and even Swype if you don’t feel like typing on the slide-out full qwerty keyboard. The SMART will only set you back $70 after $50 mail-in rebate although, you can score it for $30 if you purchase it on T-Mobile’s website.

While none of these phones are going to make anyone’s jaws drop, its always nice to have options. With the Exhibit 4G only $10 dollars more than the SMART seems like kind of a no-brainer on which to choose although that full qwerty keyboard doesn’t look half bad. You can look forward to both these devices dropping sometime this month (although rumored for a June 8th launch date) on T-Mobile.

T-Mobile G2x Issues And Resolutions Internal Document Leaked

The T-Mobile G2x being pulled from the carriers online store recently spawned rumors that quality issues were behind it. But according to T-Mobile, they temporarily pulled the phone due to inventory constraints. However, they did admit to a having some issues that they plan to fix with an upcoming update. Now a leaked internal document reveals that they’re finally getting more serious about addressing them.

Since day one, the T-Mobile G2x had been plagued with problems such as random reboots, light leakage, and other quality issues. However, T-Mobile says that only a “small percentage” of its customers raised complaints, or in their words “commented about possible improvements.” The carrier did promise that it was working closely with LG to deliver an update to fix those issues.
An internal G2x Issues and Resolutions document surfaced today that shows that T-Mobile is finally trying to address a lot of the quirky problems. But many of the issues are still marked as pending resolution. Hopefully, the upcoming Gingerbread update will fix things. In the meantime, take a look at our G2x review.

T-Mobile: G2x Unavailable Due to Demand

T-Mobile’s gotten back to the community regarding some rumors circulating related to the G2x. Yesterday, it was discovered that the G2x was removed from their online store and was hard to find on in-store shelves, with only traces of it ever existing being several accessories available for purchase.
The original rumor questioned whether or not it was due to quality issues. To be more specific, users have been complaining about random reboots and freezes since the device’s inception, a problem that plagued even the international version, the Optimus 2X. LG has since released an update to address these issues for the Optimus 2X, but couldn’t say if or when the G2x would get it.
Other issues include bad battery life and bad light bleeds at the corners of the device. T-Mobile’s chimed back in to say that it hasn’t been made unavailable due to these issues, though. Instead, it’s in such high demand that they can’t sell it. Here’s their official statement on the matter:
The T-Mobile G2X with Google has been a highly popular device with both customers and employees since its launch last month, and high demand has resulted in inventory constraints, which we are working with LG to address.
There it is, then. Let’s just hope they really are working on addressing the issues that many have been facing, though.

T-Mobile G2x Pulled From Site For Quality Issues?

Perhaps the hottest phone on T-Mobile’s lineup, the G2x, has mysteriously disappeared from the carrier’s website. According to TMoNews, the phone may have been pulled for quality issues. A search for the device on T-Mobile.com currently only results in G2x accessories, but no sign of the device itself.

Despite the great specs and even our own positive review of the G2x, the device has run into several problems since its launch. Customers have voiced complaints of random reboots, light leaks, and other quality issues. Originally thought to be a firmware problem, the G2x being pulled could signal a much more serious hardware problem.
T-Mobile was set to have a midnight sale today to include the G2x, but tweeted late last evening to change their offering to the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G instead. We’ll keep you posted on how this develops, whether T-Mobile confirms any of the issues and if so, whether they plan to recall and replace.

Unlock Samsung Galaxy S 2 For Use On AT&T Or T-Mobile

Sometimes there are those phones overseas that are just so appealing, you may want to get them shipped over stateside. Thanks to overseas phone’s being based off the GSM technology (SIM cards) it makes them compatible with GSM carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile here in the US. Normally, you would have to make sure the phone in question is “unlocked” so that it will work with your carrier or go through the hassle of calling the original carrier or taking the device to a shop to be unlocked by a professional. Well, apparently the original Samsung Galaxy S line of phones made this process extremely easy by storing the unlock code inside the phone. This code could then be extracted thanks to a handy app found on XDA allowing you to use these imported phones on either AT&T or T-Mobile.
Well, it looks like Samsung hasn’t changed much and their overseas Galaxy S 2 handsets still provide that special unlock code hidden inside their phones, only to be extracted by a new free SIM unlocking app that can be found on the Android Market. Keep in mind your phone will have to be rooted before you can use the app but the benefits of having an unlocked Galaxy S 2 here in the states before anyone else could make it all worth it. Also, T-Mobile uses slightly different bands than the UK so although you can make calls and text, you may be stuck with only Edge data.
Now that you know how easy it is to unlock the Galaxy S 2, anyone tempted on getting one of these bad boys imported stateside for all your friends to drool over?

T-Mobile Boosts HSPA+ 4G to 42Mbps Tomorrow, We Test Today

Today T-Mobile announces that their 4G network (aka HSPA+) will be boosted across 55 markets where the service is already available, this boost bringing up the theoretical download peak up to 42Mbps. This should also theoretically affect everyone holding a T-Mobile phone, but we shall see. For those Android users also carrying a notebook, they’ve decided to release a lovely T-Mobile Rocket 3.0 modem in several sassy colors including black, purple, and royal blue. *What you see below is a test we’ve run today to compare to tomorrow’s roll-out.

This new rollout is starting tomorrow, so today we thought it’d be fun to test out the speed of the T-Mobile network from our very own brand new LG Optimus 3D. Why not, right? Only thing to note here is that this device is a developer’s unit and therefor may have a different set of hardware/software at the release. I say to you now and repeat – this is ONLY A TEST FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES. Now – up until now we’ve been using SpeedTest.net but we’ve recently found them to be less than reputable. Thusly we’ve begun moving over to Xtremelabs Speedtest – but we’re not entirely turned off quite yet. Time for another test. This is a pre-test to see how T-Mobile is doing right this moment. Have a look:

Now we’ve just got to test tomorrow if the hubbub is all a bub!

New HTC Sensation Pics Leak – This Time With T-Mobile Branding

As if you needed further proof that the eve of the T-Mobile Sensation is fast approaching us, T-Mo News was able to secure a handful of leaked pics, this time with actual T-Mobile branding. The photauge was even nice enough to include shots of the packaging and all. The HTC Sensation has been rumored for a June 8th release and with these latest leaked pics, looks like T-Mobile may be all set to launch.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the HTC Sensation will become T-Mobile’s second dual-core handset on the market, this time with Qualcomm’s dual-core Snapdragon processor at the helm and HTC’s latest Sense 3.0 UI. The phone will be more than capable of handling 1080p video recording with its 8MP camera and photos and games will look great on its qHD display.
How many T-Mobile customers are excited and picking this phone up on day one? Any G2X users going to jump on this or are you not letting this phase you?

T-Mobile lauches new individual and family plans right on schedule

As rumored, T-Mobile overhauled its individual and family plans today and simplified your options to just three tiers of voice service. Individuals can choose between 500, 1,000 or unlimited minutes, with unlimited text messaging adding $10 and data add-ons ranging from $10 for 200MB to $60 for 10GB. Family plans come in 1,000, 2,000 and unlimited minute varieties while the sharable data and text services cost twice as much as their individual counterparts. There are some odd restrictions, such as the inability to add texting or data to the mid-tier plans and no choice for unlimited voice service without SMS tacked on. We do, however, like the overage-free data options that simply drop to 2G speeds when you reach your plan's threshold instead of shocking you with huge fees at the end of the month. We can also confirm that restocking fees have been bumped from $10 regardless of device to $50 for smartphones, $75 for tablets, and $25 for USB modems and "basic phone devices." Check out the sources for all the details and fine print.

XDA To The Rescue, Netflix Running On The T-Mobile Vibrant

Well, after months and months of waiting we finally saw the highly coveted Netflix app for Android hit the market.  Unfortunately, there were only a handful of devices supported.  But as expected, upon launch, it was only a matter of time before our developing dogs at XDA caught the scent and modified a couple of apk’s for non-supported devices.  And thanks to the boys over at AndroidSPIN, they managed to get the app up and running on the T-Mobile Vibrant.  Only catch, it’s running on Gingerbread based ROM’s.  There are very limited choices for Galaxy S phones in the US as far as 2.3 ROM’s go,  but it has been confirmed to be working flawlessly on CyanogenMOD7 for the Vibrant.  We get to thank XDA member n1gh7mar3 for manipulating the device check in the apk and gracing the masses with some streaming love.  Check out the video below of the app working seamlessly on the Vibrant and feel free to fire away in the comments if you have any other light to shed on the subject.

T-Mobile 2011 roadmap leaked, Includes Sensation, HTC G-Infinity and more

With AT&T hot on the heels of T-Mobile trying to acquire their entire network, some would think T-Mobile would be sitting back a little bit but it seems to be just the opposite. They are showing no signs of slowing down any time soon with all the phones they are planning and releasing in the coming weeks. We have a leaked roadmap that shows just about everything, but I’ll stick to the android parts.

According to the sources they have some exciting things planned for June, and wont be slowing down after that either. We see a bunch of names that may or may not be android phones, but ones like the HTC G-Infinity surely is Android. Possibly a big brother to the G2, and G2x, or maybe even a HTC Android 3.1 Tablet.
-June 8th, The Sensation 4G, and the recently talked about Samsung Exhibit 4G will be released.
-June 15th, T-Mobile may be releasing the Samsung Galaxy Mini, we haven’t heard much about this device.
-July 6th, HTC is said to be releasing their full qwerty slider called the Mytouch 4G Slide. (aka Doubleshot)
-July 15th, HTC will then drop the HTC Wildfire S, known as the Marvel for the mid-range group.
-September 26th could be the release day of the dual-core Samsung Hercules we mentioned yesterday.
-November 2nd, LG has a few phones in line also, not sure if those are android but LG has had their aim on Android of late so I think they will be. Named the Maxx and Maxx Q.
Sounds like an interesting few months for T-Mobile and team magenta. Hopefully they wont be switching to AT&T any time soon. There was also a lot of talk about other handsets from LG, Samsung and HTC but none of those had a specific date for us to report on. The most exciting to me is the HTC G-Infinity I mentioned above. It might be a Sense-less device with stock Ice Cream Sandwich to match the purity of the G2 and G2x. Hopefully they unlock its bootloader first, but that is just wishful thinking. Talks about a LG Optimus 2, HTC Bresson, and a Samsung Dumont were all briefly covered as well. They mention Nokia and Crackberry but we will stick to Android.
That is a pretty large list of devices, hopefully soon we will get a picture or a screenshot of this leak to show you all, but for now we will just have to report it as we hear it. Leaking a list this large and in depth makes us wonder if a T-Mobile employee went on a binge with all this data and quit before he moves over to AT&T, but leaks are pretty common so I doubt that really happened. Stay tuned for more!

T-Mobile roadmap reveals launch dates for thee HTC handsets

Anyone looking to pick up a new HTC phone on T-Mobile USA this summer might want to grab a pen a jot a few dates down.  T-Mobile’s summer roadmap has leaked, revealing launch details for three different HTC phones (the HTC Sensation 4G, T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide, and HTC Marvel).  The roadmap confirms that the HTC Sensation is scheduled to launch on June 8th.  The T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide is listed with a July 6th launch date along with HTC Marvel (HTC wildfire S).
Carrier roadmaps are always a good source for handset launch dates, but we’re found that they don’t always hold up.  Let’s hope T-Mobile and HTC can keep to their schedule; summer is always more fun with a new HTC phone!

Samsung Hercules to Save T-Mobile Customers?

An early accessory listing leaked the names of Samsung Galaxy S II variants for AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint, leaving T-Mobile out of the loop. Today though it looks like there may be another “hero” phone coming T-Mobile, in the form of a phone named (for now anyway) the Samsung Hercules, a phone with the power of the Galaxy S II, and the size of AT&T’s new Infuse 4G.

With a 4.5″ WVGA (480×800) screen, the Hercules will be the biggest phone to come to T-Mobile. What do you expect with a (code)name like Hercules though? However, unlike it’s equally giant cousin, the Infuse, the Hercules is rumored to be pushing the boundaries in just about every spec, and even breaking a few.
Starting with radios, the Hercules is rumored to have not only support for both T-Mobile’s as well as AT&T’s HSPA+ bands (which prepares it for whatever the outcome of AT&T’s attempt to purchase T-Mobile), it supports up to 42 MBs down, twice as fast as any other HSPA+ phone in the U.S. is capable of at the moment. Moving on, the rumored processor is the same 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon that powers the HTC Sensation, a strange move when Samsung has their own dual-core processor in certain versions of the Galaxy S II. The rest of the specs are:
– Android 2.3
- physical dimensions: 5.16″ x 2.76″ x 0.37″
- 16GB internal storage, expandable with up to a 32GB microSD
- 1GB RAM
- 8 MP back camera with 1080p and a front-facing camera
- Like the Nexus S, NFC support
No word yet on when this may be reaching users, but it hasn’t even reached T-Mobile for testing yet. Looks like T-Mobile users will have to wait for dual-core Samsung goodies with the rest of us here in the U.S.

T-Mobile offers Android users and others free WiFi calling

If you are a T-Mobile user who has an Android smartphone and like to use WiFi calling some good news has surfaced today. T-Mobile has finally offered users of Android smartphones, and other devices free WiFi calling. It’s really about time since WiFi calls should have never counted against your minutes since the calls were going through your WiFi bandwidth at home or in the office. T-Mobile has now fixed that issue for users.

Gigaom received an email from a T-Mobile rep who said as of now all T-Mobile users can add free WiFi calling to their rate plan and calls placed using WiFi will no longer count towards the number of minutes they are allotted for the month. The new offer is good for all customers on Even More and Even More Plus postpaid plans with WiFi calling capable handsets. Apparently, the Android devices need to have the Smart Wi-Fi app pre-installed and configured for T-Mobile.
With competition increasing and the number of alternatives to T-Mobile available that don’t charge for WiFi calling, it’s a good thing that TMo is finally getting with the times. The free WiFi calls are apparently only for USA customers who have phones with UMA support. Gigaom reports that so far, T-Mobile hasn’t issued the official press release on the new offer, but that should come soon I would imagine.

Sprint Enticing Current T-Mobile Customers to Switch With ETF Fee Waived?

In yet another attempt to smear the AT&T/T-Mobile merger proposal, Sprint is said to be offering customers $175 credits when porting their number over from T-Mobile to Sprint. Think of it as sort of a “safe haven” for customers who are uncertain about Magenta’s future. The $175 should cover most of the ETC you’d otherwise pay (and depending on what type of phone and plan you get, could pay for 2-3 months of service before you’ll have to come out of pocket).

The document states that customers can leave Sprint for T-Mobile and get their ETF waived if the acquisition doesn’t go through, though they have 90 days from the announcement day to do so. And if the proposal does end up being approved, Sprint states you’re theirs “for life”.
Sounds a bit diabolical for Sprint’s taste, I’d think. But you aren’t actually theirs for life – you can just as easily cancel your contract or wait for it to expire. Bad choice of words there. This supposed promotion is said to end July 23rd. Be sure to call around and see if this is legit if you’re intrigued by the offer.

Official T-Mobile G2 Gingerbread ROM Leaked

We’ve already seen a test build of the Gingerbread ROM that’s soon to be headed to T-Mobile G2 customers, but 911Sniper has leaked yet another. And this time, it looks to be a final, stable build. ROM makers are going to want to get their hands on this one right away, but for those of you who don’t fancy doing that sort of stuff today’s leak suggests T-Mobile is just bout ready to roll this out to users. Let’s hope to hear official word about it from them sometime soon. Download link is here
