Wave Launcher is a unique, gesture-enabled, quick action-bar for Android. It resembles a well-known and loved feature on WebOS phones like the Palm-Pre and works system-wide.
There are a number of apps that accomplish the same thing. Basically it is a shortcut to your most used or favorite apps. You can free up space from your home screens because you can select from up to 12 of your favorite apps to be in the launcher.
Wave Launcher is enabled by swiping your finger from the bottom of your screen towards the middle. The wave will appear and you will see the icons of your selected apps. You then move your finger from right to left to select the app you would like to run. As you move your finger right or left it resembles a wave.
I think Wave Launcher is very effective and runs smoothly. One of the biggest pros of Wave Launcher is that you can launch it from within any app, but I think the biggest con is that it is limited to 12 apps and you cannot have multiple waves. For example, I would like to see different waves for different categories like games, media, etc. You could have different gestures for each one.
If you are someone who does not install a lot of apps on your device then you will find Wave Launcher to be a really nice launcher. I prefer Circle Launcher which is essentially the same type of app, but you can have multiple launchers for different categories. One limitation for Circle Launcher would be that it is a widget so you cannot launch it from within any app, but I prefer the flexibility of having multiple launchers for different categories.
Another app that is similar is Dock4Droid which we recently reviewed. I cannot not comment since I have never tried it.
Wave Launcher is normally .99cents, but it is free in the Amazon Appstore until 11:59pm PST.
