HTC Evo View 4G tablet headed to Sprint June 24

Not too long ago Chris B. put up his review of the cool HTC Flyer WiFi tablet and figured if you have the desire to write notes on your Android tablet then it might be the device for you. If you looked at that tablet and thought if it had 4G you might be interested, get ready. A tip has surfaced that points to Sprint getting a version of that tablet packing in 4G connectivity this month.


The tip comes from a screen grab from the Sprint internal Rewards Me site. The specific launch date as you can see in that yellow bubble is June 24, which is only a few weeks away. That would mean the 7-inch Sprint WiMax flavor of the Evo View also known as the Flyer will be coming in short order. That launch date also meshes with the promised and vague “summer” ship date.
It’s also worth noting that the Evo 3D smartphone is also pegged to launch on the same day at RadioShack. It looks like June 24 is shaping up to be a good day for HTC fans everywhere. We assume that all the features of the View 4G tablet on the Sprint network will be the same as the WiFi version we reviewed other than the 4G hardware inside.

Sprint Releases Details of 3D Content to be Available for Evo 3D

While we’re still waiting for a release date, Sprint and has decided to tease us with a few new details about the HTC Evo 3D. The dual-core, glasses-less 3D featuring phone is launching on Sprint’s 4G network sometime this summer, and now we’re starting to get a better idea of what sort of content we’ll have to take advantage of that 4.3″ 3D screen.


The Evo 3D (see our hands on from CTIA here) is set to be the first major Android smartphone to feature the stereoscopic, glasses-less 3D. Being the first of its kind, one would think it would be a bit lonely in the content department, but Sprint is seeing to it that doesn’t happen. To give you something to do right away, Sprint’s going to be including The Green Hornet in 3D on the pre-packaged SD card with all phones, at least for its initial release. You’ll also get a demo of a 3D Spiderman game, courtesy of Gameloft.

Once you get bored with the pre-loaded content, You’ll be able to bring your money to HTC’s Watch movie store as well as a Blockbuster On-Demand app which will rent, and sell you 2D and 3D movies. Should you be more of a gamer, Sprint has you covered. Gameloft will also be bundling a store app. Gameloft Storefront, as it will be called, will offer several promising sounding 3D games including an Assassins’ Creed title. If you can stand the wait, it sounds like Sprint has every intention of making sure the Evo 3D is a worth successor to the giant it follows.

HTC EVO 3D will be pre-loaded with the HTC WatchTM movie application. With HTC Watch, consumers will have access to 2D and 3D movies and television programming on demand. Customers can buy or rent and download movies that will be optimized for viewing on HTC EVO 3D. Additionally, up to five movies can be stored in the HTC cloud, and programming purchased through the HTC Watch application can be viewed on other HTC devices. Rentals range in price from $2.99 to $3.99, and purchases start at $8.99.
HTC EVO 3D will be the first 3D handset pre-loaded with the Blockbuster On Demand® mobile app offering access to one of the largest catalogs of movies, including 3D titles. Sprint Samsung SPH-D600 mid-range WiMAX Android phone leaks

One of Sprint’s upcoming mid-range WiMAX Android smartphones has leaked, with the Samsung SPH-D600 turning up in the wild for a few blurry photos. Phandroid‘s tipster sent them the loot, a triplet of shots showing the DROID X-esque fascia, simple back panel and software screen confirming it’s Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread onboard.

Among the confirmed specs so far are a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 480 x 320 resolution touchscreen and a 3.2-megapixel main camera, while there’s also a front-facing webcam for video calls. That doesn’t exactly make for a groundbreaking product sheet, but it should hopefully mean that Sprint can offer this 4G handset at a more affordable price.
With rivals like Verizon releasing a number of 4G LTE phones at the moment, Sprint needs to claw some attention back to its own 4G offering. A $99 or lower sticker for the SPH-D600 could certainly do that, and we see nothing in the specs that would really prevent it. No word on release date nor official name at this stage.

It looks like Sprint is finally all set and ready to start pre-orders for the HTC EVO 3D. So for those waiting to get their hands on some glasses-free 3D action that time will be coming shortly. If you’d like to see the EVO 3D in action check out our sister site SlashGear doing a little hands-on with the next generation of the EVO.

The EVO 3D should be a fantastic device and will most likely be the next best selling device on Sprint behind the original. It has some great specs and I’m sure you’ll want to get your hands on it soon. According to sources that is exactly what is coming soon. From what we are hearing Sprint is now accepting pre-orders on both the EVO 3D, as well as the HTC View 4G Tablet. You basically are required to put a $50 dollar deposit down and buy a giftcard and you’ll be added to the short list of who will get this device first.
The View 4G for those that might have missed it is basically Sprint’s version of the HTC Flyer yet it will be rocking 4G speeds. Again our sister site SlashGear has the View 4G hands-on for your viewing pleasure. These devices both have no official price, but if you are certain you want one and are willing to drop the $50 to get on the pre-order page make sure you head to the nearest full out Sprint-owned store and make it happen. HTC Evo 3D, View 4G available for pre-order at Sprint

Sprint customers holding out for the HTC Evo 3D can now inch slightly closer to that glasses-free display -- without dropping by RadioShack. The carrier has confirmed that you can reserve the WiMAX handset by visiting a Sprint-owned retail store and plunking down $50 for a gift card. There's still no word on when you'll be able to get the device in-hand (and the 3D's exclusive carrier is mum on pricing), but, if you don't mind reserving a phone without any hint as to how much you'll eventually need to pay, then Sprint seems happy enough to swap your Grant for a spot on the list. It's also taking names for the Evo View 4G tablet and, like the 3D, that $50 deposit can be used to take a bite out of a 2D handset. You know, in case you decide that a third dimension is too hot to handle.

Sprint network is down in some areas, SMS and voice call services affected (updated)

Uh oh, according to the handful of tips we've received, it appears that Sprint is currently having some technical problems on its cellular network in some states. Specifically, customers aren't having much luck with sending text messages, while some are also not able to make voice calls. But don't worry, the carrier's certainly aware of this issue and is already working on a fix, so hang tight and let your fingers take a break -- we'll let you know when things are up and running again.

Update: Here's a statement we got from Sprint:

"We did have some disruption to Sprint SMS traffic earlier tonight, but it wasn't a complete disruption -- we lost partial capacity for about an hour. Engineers immediately began rerouting traffic and after about an hour things went back to normal.

There is no significant voice disruption anywhere in the US except for a small part of our Sprint network in the Washington, DC area. That has since been resolved and had no relation to the SMS disruption."

US Galaxy S II variants named: AT&T Attain, Verizon Function and Sprint Within

Samsung’s Galaxy S II is one of the mot coveted Android smartphones of the moment, but while Europe and Asia is able to play with the Super AMOLED Plus handset, North America is still waiting for its taste of overclocked Exynios. Now it seems US naming and carrier support has been leaked courtesy of a premature accessory listing.

According to the Wireless Xcessories Group, their silicone gel back cover will fit the Samsung Galaxy S 2 Attain on AT&T, the Galaxy S 2 Function on Verizon, and the Galaxy S 2 Within on Sprint. T-Mobile USA is notable for its absence; that could be because the carrier isn’t getting a version or, perhaps more likely, because aesthetically it is different and the gel wouldn’t fit.
Given the success of the original Galaxy S in North America, it’s no great surprise that Samsung is working with so many carriers on its successor. Of course, we still don’t know quite when it will arrive.

Nexus S 4G, $99 on Wirefly.com for new Sprint customers

The Nexus S 4G is one of Sprints latest offerings on their network. From Sprint you can get this Android 2.3 device for $199, and at Best Buy for $150 as reported last week. Now Wirefly has showed them both up by offering the Pure Google phone for $99. I don’t need to tell you guys this is a great deal for this Google+Samsung device. You won’t find many differences between this Nexus S 4G and the Nexus S (T-Mobile), other than the 4G version will have the capability to run on Sprints WiMAX network.

HTC Kingdom Rom Ported to Sprint Evo 4G

The ever popular Sprint Evo 4G just keeps getting all the goodies when it comes to the hacking community.  Hey, when you’ve got a good device stick with it right?  It’s no secret the Evo 4G is still a popular dev phone and we love seeing the latest and greatest being ported over to it.  Last week we saw the highly coveted Sense UI 3.0 make its way to the Desire HD and the Desire Z.  And since we can’t find one single reason why they should have all the fun, our good fellows over at XDA got it up and running on the Evo 4G.  XDA member XxXViRuSXxX has been hard at work configuring his first release to function on the Evo with very minor issues.  See what happens when devs get their hands on system dumps from devices like the Kingdom, the Doubleshot and the up and coming Sensation?  Pure magic.  This has been one heck of a collaboration project and it looks like it’s paying off.  They have managed to get quite a bit up and running with very minor bug issue too.  The weather app and the video camera still need a bit polishing, as one is broken and the latter force closes when recording.  However, it’s only a matter of time until they get resolved.  Below is a list of everything that works on the device, including 4G.  But feel free to leave the dev some feedback and what device you’re sporting so they can try to resolve any issues that are device specific.

Nexus S 4G Now Available at Sprint for $199 On a Two-Year Contract

As of yesterday the Nexus S 4G is available through Sprint for the price of $199.99 on a two-year contact. The handset is made by Samsung and mirrors the specs of the original Nexus S. The only difference, as is obvious from the name, is the 4G WiMAX radio dropped in for boosted data speeds.

Sprint, Best Buy Now Selling Samsung Nexus S 4G – WiMAX Customers, Get Ready To Experience Stock Gingerbread

Sprint customers hungry for vanilla Gingerbread can stop holding their breaths now – the Nexus S 4G just went on sale. Sprint will charge you $199.99 for the Samsung-made device, but if you’re looking for the best bargain in town, you’ll want to visit Best Buy – they’re selling it for just $149.99 with a new two-year contract. BB’s upgrade price is still $199.99, but at least free shipping is offered by both retailers (ETA: 5/11-5/14 at Best Buy; 2-5 business days at Sprint).
As a reminder, this stock Android machine comes loaded with:

• 4-inch Super AMOLED Contour display with a WVGA (800×480) resolution
• WiMAX connectivity
• 1GHz Hummingbird processor

Sprint launching updated tiered pricing for embedded devices on May 8th

It looks like May 8th will bring a change in data plans for Sprint mobile broadband and embedded devices like tablets. The new packages will be 3GB for $34,99, 5GB for $49.99, and 10GB for $79.99.
Sprint currently offers 5GB for $59.99 per month and a 2GB tablet-only plan for $29.99 per month.
These plans should be good for the Motorola XOOM, BlackBerry Playbook, and the new Samsung Galaxy Tabs.

Google Voice Integration With All Sprint Numbers is Now Live

Sprint and Google have been beta-testing a full integration of Google Voice with the Sprint network over the past several weeks, and today the service has been declared “live.” Sprint customers can now use their Sprint number to run all of their Google Voice services, allowing them to set the phone to ring at multiple locations, or even different locations determined by the caller or time of day. Or if you’d prefer, you can have all outgoing calls go out through your Google Voice service. This brings a lot of versatility, and the process is fairly seamless, though by default it will disable SMS messages from coming into your phone and route them through Google Voice instead. This feature isn’t hard to reverse, and tonight we’ll be bringing you a quick how-to on that, plus any other tips and tricks we find this afternoon.  Catch the video promo after the break, and head to the official site to get started.

Samsung SPH-D600 Heading to Sprint with a Ticker Screen?

Another smart phone has been spotted hanging out at the FCC hoping to pick up its papers on the way to the Now Network.  A Samsung SDH-D600 was recently found online with a few preliminary hardware specs to share.  Look for the low-end to mid-range handset to feature a 3.1-megapixel camera, and a 320x480 display as well as support for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, and WiMAX.  Pocketnow is also reporting a 1GHz processor and a sliding QWERTY form factor akin to the Epic 4G.  This makes sense because the Epic 4G was the D700 while this D600 may come in slightly less powerful.  Oh, and do we notice another "ticker" phone coming from Samsung?

Verizon offers a pair of Galaxy S phones in the Fascinate and Continuum so it would be logical that Sprint follows a similar pattern, except with a QWERTY keyboard.

Sprint has announced that it will be offering the WiFi only version of the Motorola Xoom for a mere $599.99. Between you and me, thats a bit pricey. Especially if you stack it up to some of the other recently released tablets with a better price. But thats the deal, ‘eh?
This was the first tablet device to run Honeycomb. Android 3.0 mobile operating system, was specifically designed with the tablet platform in mind. Along with Android 3.0, the tablet can boast 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB internal RAM memory and 32GB onboard user memory,rear-facing 5-megapixel and front-facing 2-megapixel camera, both capable of HD video, and 10.1-inch widescreen HD display. And the fact that its a WiFi device, there is no required contract. Just shell out the $600 bones and you got yourself a brand spanking new tablet.

Sprint reports Q1 2011 results, adds 1.1 million subscribers

It's financials time and the word hasn't always been rosy for Sprint of late, but this time the company has some good news to share. In this, the first quarter of 2011, Sprint added 1.1 million total subscribers, 846,000 of those were prepaid, the other 310,000 postpaid. Churn was down too, 4.36 for prepaid and 1.81 percent for postpaid, lowest in five years for the former and lowest ever for the latter. Operating income was $259 million on $8.3 billion in revenue, which is up three percent from this time last year, but factor in taxes, lunar landing rights, and all the other fun stuff and the company posted a net loss of $439 million. CEO Dan Hesse called this "slow but steady progress," and the addition of subscribers "a tough streak to keep going as the bar keeps getting higher." A tough streak indeed, but the launch of phones like the Nexus S 4G might just help keep it alive for another quarter.

Nexus S 4G launch on Sprint now official: May 8th for $200

You've been able to pre-order the Sprint-ified version of the Nexus S for a good while now, but it's always good to add a concrete date for the end of the anticipation and the beginning of the Android 2.3 fun. That date has now been officially marked as May 8th. That's when your Pure Google device will be ready for use and abuse, though you'll have to accept the usual two-year commitment with Sprint and pay up the typical $200 entry fee. Intriguingly, the Nexus S 4G's release date matches up with a roadmap leak we saw recently, which also featured the Motorola Xoom launching on Sprint in "early May."
