Toshiba Thrive Honeycomb Tablet coming this July for $429

The Toshiba Thrive is the name of the Toshiba tablet we have covered a few times. We even saw it way back in January looking the same as it does now. It was originally known as the Regza and original leaks suggested a $700 price tag. Today we have better news that this tablet will be starting as low as $429


The Toshiba Thrive will be the first tablet by Toshiba in the U.S and will be making its way to the market starting June 13th for pre-orders at Best Buy and other retailers and it will ship early July. It boasts the usual specs for a Honeycomb tablet and will come with Android 3.1, a 10.1″ 1280×800 resolution display as well as some competitive pricing. They will offer 3 models: 8GB for $429, 16GB for $479, and the 32GB for $579. The lowest starting at $429 is a smart move and even the 16GB is slightly cheaper than the Galaxy Tab 10.1 but the 32GB Transformer is already cheaper.

The Thrive features all those other specs most of the tablets of late have. Such as Wifi, Bluetooth, HDMI and USB ports, Micro SD slots and can’t forget about cameras. It has a 5MP rear and 2MP front for video chat. It also has a lock button for portrait or landscape mode as well as having a removable battery so it should fair well, and also be different from the rest. Stay tuned for more information.

Toshiba’s Honeycomb Tablet Delayed Until End of Summer

Toshiba’s Honeycomb tablet, which will be known as the Regza AT300 in some parts of the world, has been delayed until the “very end of summer,” according to Ken Chan of the company’s UK business and laptops division. He wouldn’t, however, explain the reason behind the delay of the Tegra 2 device.
The 10.1-inch slate was first shown off at CES earlier this year, and since then has been making the rounds to various trade shows all the while managing to remain fairly elusive. The delay is fairly easy to swallow considering the number of other Honeycomb options currently available, but we do look forward to a do that Toshiba finally gets this one to shelves.

Toshiba announces delays for next Android tablet

Toshiba has been around the computing market for a long time and when the tablet started to take off it stepped into the tablet realm. Last year Toshiba offered up an Android tablet running Froyo that was called the Folio 100. It has promised a follow-up to that tablet with a larger screen and some new features as well. That follow up tablet has been pushed back by Toshiba without much in the way of explanation.

The first time we heard about the new tablet it was using a 10-inch screen with a 1280 x 800 resolution. It was also pegged for an NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and the Android Honeycomb OS. Other specs included a 5MP rear camera and a 0.2MP rear offering. The tablet is also to have WiFi, SD card slot, and USB ports. With Toshiba not offering up any official reason for the delay, some rumors are starting to surface.
One rumor that might have some truth to it is that Toshiba is waiting for quad-core processor to put inside. That said components have been hard to come by for many companies in the tablet world so the delay could simply be along the lines of what Asus is facing with the Transformer. The new Toshiba tablet was originally expected in the UK during Q2. That has been pushed to Q3 with Toshiba’s Ken Chan saying at the end of the summer.

Nexus T Toshiba Tablet Next Official Google Release?

Let’s talk about this situation and see if we can’t piece together a few factoids. First, waaay back at the beginning of this year, a mystery tablet started showing up – one made by Toshiba, having a 10.1-inch screen, and sporting what would become Android 3.0 Honeycomb (testers floating around had Froyo, of course.) Have a look at our big reveal post and continue on – does that look like a tablet that Google would officially endorse as the next step in their flagship series? That very much appears to be what may be happening now!

Our good pals at Metalev have a few clues gathered up that point directly at this device being the next in the Nexus series – Nexus T they’re calling it, and with it’s NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, prismatic lithium-ion battery, and 1280 x 800 resolution 16:10 aspect ratio adaptive display, its definitely not out of the question.
What’s a prismatic battery? It’s a big fat battery that has 3 times the life of a standard lithium ion batter in essentially the same package. Besides sounding fantastic, why is this relevant now? Toshiba's ET100/WT100 Honeycomb tablet clears the FCC

Toshiba's forthcoming Honeycomb tablet is already headed to Japanese stores as the Regza AT300, but it's been a bit slower in arriving stateside. Now it seems the company could be close to shipping a real, working product here in the US. The still unnamed slate -- dubbed the ET100/WT100 for now -- has won FCC approval for its 802.11n and Bluetooth radios. To recap, the slate will have a 10.1-inch (1280 x 800) display, run on NVIDIA's Tegra 2 platform, and sport dual cameras, HDMI and USB ports, an SD card reader, and, possibly, a removable battery.
